KDMC to Launch ₹4.75 Crore Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Citizens, Offering Free Physiotherapy Services

In a significant move aimed at supporting the disabled community, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has announced the launch of a ₹4.75 crore multipurpose rehabilitation center for physically and mentally challenged individuals. The project, led by Commissioner Indurani Jakhar, will offer free physiotherapy services and various medical consultations to residents in need. This marks the first time KDMC is providing such comprehensive, free-of-cost medical services to the disabled population of the twin city.

The initiative was approved after Commissioner Jakhar took note of the necessity to provide accessible medical facilities to disabled individuals. Subsequently, a tender was issued to the Social Development Department to facilitate the center’s construction and operations. The rehabilitation center will cater to the 5,500 disabled individuals already registered with KDMC, with provisions in place to register more eligible citizens who may not yet be aware of the facility.

The center, which will be housed on a 7,000-square-foot area on the ground floor of Mahila Kalyan Kendra Vastu in Kalyan’s C Ward, will provide an array of essential services. These include psychological counseling, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, orthopedic and neurological consultations, speech therapy, Ayurvedic and homeopathic consultations, yoga, and meditation, among others. Importantly, specialized training for caregivers will also be part of the services offered, ensuring a holistic approach to rehabilitation.

Sanjay Jadhav, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of KDMC, emphasized that the center's services will be free for Kalyan-Dombivli residents. Non-residents from neighboring areas will also have access, though at a nominal fee. This project aims to improve the quality of life for disabled individuals by removing financial barriers to vital healthcare services.

The KDMC has allocated a budget of ₹4.75 crore for the next three years to maintain and expand the center’s offerings. The facility is expected to play a critical role in empowering the disabled community, providing them with the medical support they need to lead fulfilling lives.
